One of the most important thing to do before you can launch your startup is to choose proper name for it. Think – at least – twice about that.
I will give you an example from my own experience. My name is Karol Zielinski. Karol is my first name. I’m a man and I’m from Poland. However I work for a company which offers their services for the customers from around the Europe (for now). And I have a problem, because 90% of my business partners and customers are terribly surprised when they call me and… realize that I’m a man. You know – Carol (which is so similar to Karol) in most of the countries is a female name.
So… think twice about a name for your product. Check what does this word mean in other languages. Search for this name in some search engines. Try to pronounce this name. Will it be easy to say for foreigners? Will it be easy to spell for everyone? Check it. Do not underestimate this issue.
