Find similar websites, check your competition

The most important thing for your project is to find a suitable niche in the market, which our project can fill. However, the Internet is large and the probability of finding an appropriate niche is really small.
The fact that we can’t find via Google any project that offers the functionalities that we would like to offer in our project – does not mean that there is no such a website. It may be not well advertised. Or maybe we are looking for some similar websites, but our searching is based on wrong keywords. There could be really a lot of reasons.
Therefore, beyond the standard research based on search engines – I like to use websites specializing in searching for similar pages.
Interesting tools… significantly accelerating searching Internet for interesting ideas and potential competitors.
In addition to this … I found a different use for this type of services: it’s really good thing for looking for a websites that could be really useful in promotion of our project. For example: I am looking for some websites, where I can put a link to entry from my blog. Now… I know just one website, which can give me that kind of functionality – digg.com. I want to find similar websites and that’s what I get… stumbleupon.com, diigo.com, delicious.com, etc. Next – I am looking for some professional websites, on which I could inform people about my project… I just need to type the URL of one of that kind of website, and immediately receive a list of similar ones. Useful, isn’t it?
