Time (not Times) surprised me… they built some kind of collection “50 Best Websites” in year 2009. However… what was the most surprise for me? That I didn’t ever hear about some of the websites, that was placed in top 10.
So ok… maybe first, let me give you a link to the source: Full List of 50 Best Websites 2009
And? Let me say something about TOP10:
I can understand Flickr, Delicious, Twitter. However… maybe not on these places, however I can find some reasons for that.
Skype… really popular tool, but why is it on the list of the best websites?
Boing Boing… one of the most popular blogs, however… should it be so high on that kind of list? In my opinion: no.
And the rest? What the hell is that? I didn’t even hear about California Coastline, Metafilter, popurls, Academic Earth or OpenTable. Why these sites are in TOP10 of the best websites of year 2009? Some of them look nice, some of them – not. However… I’m sure that none of them are worth to be placed in TOP10 of the best websites in the world.
Let me look on next ten of the best websites…
I can understand why Google, YouTube, Hulu, Vimeo or Amazon are there… but the rest? No, I can’t really understand why someone thinks that these websites are the best.
How they came to that, that these websites are the best ones? How they built this ranking? Because these websites has the most unique visitors? I don’t think so. Because these websites are the most innovative? No, I don’t think so. Because these websites are the funniest, most beautiful, most useful? No, no, no. I can understand that someone wants to create rankings like “Year 2009 belongs to…”, “The most popular websites in year 2009″,“‘The funniest/the most beautiful websites of the year”. However… the best websites? What does it mean by the way?
And… at last: why the hell they created this ranking right now? It’s September, 2009. It’s not the end of the year. It’s almost four months till the end of the year. There could be a lot of new websites, lots of existing ones could change… almost everything.
I just can’t understand why they did it. It’s so inconsistent with reality.
Maybe next time I will create my own ranking… with my projects in it. However… you can be sure that none of my projects are worth to be put in it. However… why not? If Time can do it… why I couldn’t?
